The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The watch has a seven jewel Traveler grade movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 12,735,598 which dates it back to 1903.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has an inscription, ‘Retford A Company, 4th Notts VBSF (believed to be Volunteer Battalion Sherwood Foresters), Major Denman’s Prize, 1906, Winner Pte A Brown’.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold filled and was made by Aaron Dennison, supplier of cases to Waltham UK. The case is in lovely condition, as is the glass lens.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
