A rare and unusual, George III period, original two section chest of drawers, Circa 1790.
Designed for easy transport or to be located in a hard to reach position, typically through tight stairs or doorway. This handsome original chest separates into two parts. The top and bottom section both have their own dust boards, with the bottom section having a cockbeaded lipped upper edge, and male locator knobs for holding the top section in place. Similar in construction to the more industrial and rugged military campaign chests which start to appear around the same time.
This chest of drawers is constructed in mahogany and pine lined, with oblong shaped top with inlaid strung border and moulded edge. Over bank of drawers configured 2 small drawers over 3 full width drawers, all graduated in height, with cock-beaded edges, strung inlaid border on the front, original brass oval plate pull handles, original tear drop escutcheons, and locks. All raised on bracket feet.
