Description

A lovely quality burr walnut restoration period commode, circa 1820, the commode has a concealed top drawer with three lower drawers all with finely decorated metalware, and having its original marble.

The French commode or chest of drawers, was constructed during the Bourbon Restoration period of French history, following the demise of Napoleon in 1814, until the July Revolution of 1830. The brothers of Louis XVI of France, came into power and introduced a conservative fashion. In reference to furniture and decor, this meant the creating a gentler version of the Empire style.
