Gents Longines Wrist Watch, West End Watch Co, 1944

1920 - 1940
Description

Gents Longines wrist watch, West End Watch Co, 1944.

The watch has a Longines hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed and it has the serial number 6,757,513 which dates it back to 1944.

The West End Watch Company was an international company with offices in Switzerland, Bombay and Calcutta. The company bought in watches from various manufacturers and branded them with the West End Watch Company name in readiness for retail in India. Often the watches had model names such as Sowar, Secundus and Queen Anne but this particular watch carries the Longines name on the dial.

Longines supplied watches to West End from 1910 and in fact were the only brand that were allowed to add their name to the West End dial. Even back then, Longines had a very good reputation so this was good marketing on the part of the West End Watch Company as it also enhanced their reputation.

The watch measures 31mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it has the West End Watch Company logo to the back, along with the CS(I) mark which tells us it was supplied to the Indian Civil Service. The case is in good condition, as is the lens.

The dial is in its original finish and has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
