An exceptional early 19th century wellington chest with particularly well figured satinwood veneers. The twin pilasters capped with roundels and purpleheart mouldings to their sides; the mouldings also frame the seven graduated drawers; the drawers have most of their original purpleheart knobs and have mahogany linings. The top drawer fitted with two internal drawers and each drawer has a hinged lid ~ perhaps designed to be used as document boxes. Other nice features: the brass gallery and, unusually, the chest has a finished back.
Height to top of gallery 55''
