In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Each drawer has its original turned ebonised knob with inset bone decoration and the drawers are flanked by turned columns with carved corbels. The chest stands on a simple square plinth which conceals and additional secret drawer in the base.

It is an excellent quality piece and very well made with a lovely patina and attractive flame mahogany drawer fronts.
It is in good condition for its age and displays well. The drawers open smoothly, having had their runners recently replaced or repaired, and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are the usual minor signs of age and use, some light marks on the top, some small repairs to chips in the veneer around the drawers and a few minor old shrinkage splits but nothing untoward or detrimental. The top two small flush drawers do not have working keys but we have put keys with them in order to pull the drawers open. The chest has been cleaned and gently waxed and is ready for use.
