London Fine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
This larger than average chest of drawers are in fine order. The mahogany is a fabulous colour and the quality is obvious.
The styling is bold with the unusual protruding drawer surrounds and nicely moulded top detail. The whole sits upon small bun feet with a straight sided plinth above.
The handles are charming and the engraved back-plate with slight batwing is reminiscent of early 18th century American styling - this piece is definately not 'run of the mill' manufacture and was crafted to order. Along with this chest there is an interesting piece of ephemera in the form of a document found behind a drawer which is a letter from the 'London Electricity Board' in 1954 to the then owner who was located in London.
Top pair = 18cm height
Second tier = 22cm height
Third tier = 24cm in height
Lower tier = 26cm in height
The chest comes with a key and all the locks work with the exception of the bottom drawer which has lost it's lock at some stage.
This chest will look great in any room of the house.
