Antique English Georgian Chippendale Mahogany Chest on Chest Tallboy (Circa 1770)

19th century
Description

This is a fine quality antique English Georgian chest on chest, from the Chippendale period, constructed of solid mahogany, boasting a stunning colour, circa 1770, in good original condition. The design of this chest is influenced by the Chippendale period, which was popular between the years of 1750 – 1790. This Georgian chest on chest came from the family home at Annesley Hall of Colonel John Neville Chaworth-Musters, who was a famous decorated military hero with a rich family history. The Georgian chest on chest boasts classic Chippendale detailing from the cavetto dentil cornice, blind fretwork frieze and fluted canted corners. The chest boasts a protruding cavetto dentil cornice, with a decorative blind fretwork frieze, above a graduated eight-drawer configuration. The Georgian chest on chest consists of two halves with an elegant moulding and a brushing slide separating the midpoint. The top section is smaller than the bottom section, which consists of two graduated drawers below three small drawers. The top section is decorated with fluted canted corners. A stunning mellow mahogany colour adorn the front of the chest and the drawers are finished with mahogany cock beading, which exhibits a touch of sophistication to this piece. The drawers are constructed with hand dovetail joints and are lined in oak. The drawers boast the original brass swan neck handles and backplates. The lower section comprises of three graduated drawers, with a simple moulded apron to the underside terminating on its original bracket feet. The Georgian chest on chest retains its original backboards. The Georgian chest on chest is a two-piece chest; it dismantles into two two sections for easy transport and access into the house. This is an ideal item for the bedroom or landing as it provides significant storage space for clothes.
