Antique English Victorian Pollard Burr Oak Four Door Sideboard Chiffonier Server (Circa 1860)

19th century
Description

This is a stunning exhibition quality antique Victorian oak sideboard, decorated with pollard / burr oak panels, with a breakfront design, comprising four doors, circa 1860, in excellent original condition. The Victorian oak sideboard comprises a breakfront top with a moulded underside, decorated with mirror matched quarter veneers. The sideboard fame features canted corners, finished with reeded columns.

Between the central pedestals, at the top, is a single, central drawer with an oval pollard oak moulded panel front, and a moulded frieze handle along the bottom. The drawers are mahogany lined, with hand dovetail construction and boasts a quarter beaded interior (a sign of quality). Below, are four moulded panel cupboards doors decorated with fine pollard / burr oak. The left-hand, centre-right and right-hand doors all retain their original working locks, with one key which operates the left-hand and right-hand doors, and another key which operates the centre-right door. The centre-left door retains its original brass sliding bolt latches.

The pedestal doors open to reveal cupboards, with the left-hand cupboard comprising a single drawer, above two pull-out sliding trays. To the central cupboard is a single, central shelf. The right-hand pedestal, there is a single drawer at the top (please note, in the pictures, this drawer is absent, but we do have it - it was accidentally left out of the sideboard when it was photographed!). At the bottom of the pedestal is the original tin-lined cellarette drawer (which was used for storing drinks).

The doors retain their original working lock, with working key. The Victorian oak sideboard stands on a lovely protruding chamfered plinth, with the back of the chiffonier retaining its original pine backboards. This Victorian oak sideboard is certainly an example of exhibition-quality piece, with a high standard of construction and extremely solid in joint. This is a single piece Victorian oak sideboard and does not dismantle.

The Victorian oak sideboard boasts a mellow golden oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

The s Victorian oak sideboard would look superb in any hallway or dining room. This item would certainly grace any contemporary or traditional home. It is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:

This is a stunning exhibition quality antique Victorian oak sideboard, decorated with pollard / burr oak panels, with a breakfront design, comprising four doors, circa 1860, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The Victorian oak sideboard has been cleaned and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. Therefore, the colour and patination of pollard / burr oak is of an excellent standard. There are no stains or watermarks to the top. The drawer and doors close flush to the frame; they are not warped and there are no splits to the door panels. The drawers are mahogany lined and feature dovetail construction; the central external drawer also boasts a quarter beaded interior (a sign of quality), as well as an oval moulded burr oak panel. The left-hand, centre-right & right-hand doors retain their original working locks (with working keys) and the centre-left door retains the original brass sliding bolt latches. Please note, in the pictures, the top right drawer in the right-hand pedestal is absent, but we do have it - it was accidentally left out of the sideboard when it was photographed! The carcass is solid in joint with no loose movements and there is no missing veneer.
