Thomas Russell full hunter pocket watch, c1930.

Thomas Russell & Son was a well respected business having achieved a Royal Warrant as watch and clock makers to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

In 1881 the company started importing movements from Switzerland, such as the one we have in this particular watch, a 10-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Thomas Russell logo, and it is all protected with an inner cover which is engraved, “To William, from Father & Mother, 5/2/30”.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold plated Star model from the Dennison Watch Case Company, a prolific manufacturer of cases and supplier to various watch makers. The case is in good condition, just a hint of gentle unevenness, nothing too detrimental. The front has William’s initials, WRA.

Closer inspection reveals that the movement and case are not original to each other although of approximately the same age.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

Inside, there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.

The signed dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
