Antique Waltham Hunter Pocket Watch, Thos Russell

Antique Waltham full hunter pocket watch for Thomas Russell.

The watch has a seven jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed American Waltham USA Tempus and it has the serial number 21,776,255 which dates it back to 1917. The Tempus name refers to the fact that the watch was made from Thomas Russell, their motto being Tempus Fugit.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is stamped as being ‘Silvernus, imitation silver’. Alloys were often used to re-create the silver look, they came with various names such as Silverore, Silveroid and Silverine. The case is in very nice condition, just one small flat area to the side of the case. The style of case, with the stepped detail, is very typical of Thomas Russell watches but it is quite unusual to see a Silvernus example.

Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.

The dial is signed with both the Thomas Russell and Waltham logos. Blued steel hands (the minute hand is very slightly out of shape), a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There is a short hairline between 7 and 8.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
