Gents 1928 Silver Wrist Watch

Gents 1928 silver wrist watch.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely.

The watch is a good wearable size at 33mm wide excluding the winding crown and 33mm high excluding the fixed lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for Glasgow (import mark) 1928 with an importer’s mark for James Weir.

James Weir acted as an assay agent for foreign manufacturers who did not have a British address from which to submit items to the assay office. Weir's company received packages of watch cases, stamped them with the registered sponsor's mark, sent them into the Glasgow Assay Office for assay and hallmarking and then returned them abroad.

The front and sides of the case are in good condition. The case back has a small “ding” to one corner, and three little pin prick marks to another corner.

The lens is in good condition, light marking but very acceptable.

The dial is in good condition with Breguet style hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
