Antique silver Tavannes pocket watch, 1918.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. This is a good quality jewelled movement, signed Tavannes Watch Co. A nice perlée finish to the plates, together with a US patent date of 24 May 1902.

This patent was for a negative set stem winding and setting mechanism granted to Henri-Frédéric Sandoz, founder of the Tavannes Watch Co.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a couple of pin prick marks and a small patch of scratching.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for Birmingham 1918 with a maker’s mark for the English case maker Aaron Dennisons. Dennisons manufactured cases for many Swiss movements which had been imported into the UK, often to avoid import duty on precious metals. The case has gentle unevenness to the hinged case back but otherwise is in lovely condition.

The glass lens is in lovely condition.

The black dial is in its original finish. There probably would have been painted detail on the numbers and hands but this has been removed over the years due to the radium content. The hands have been painted at some stage in the past.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
