1950s Le Cheminant pocket watch.

The watch has a 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has images of various medals and also the wording, ‘remontoir, ancre de precision’ which confirms that the watch is keyless and has a lever movement.

The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is chrome plated and it has an Art Deco inspired pattern to the hinged case back. Overall, the case is in good condition with just light surface marks.

The watch glass is in lovely condition.

The signed dial has its original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track with red 24 hour numbers.

John Le Cheminant first started trading in the first half of the 19th Century with premises in Wimpole Street, London. He was listed as a jeweller and later also as a watchmaker, supplying watches to private clients and also precision timepieces to the Royal Navy. In 1957, Le Cheminant was bought by a Suffolk family jeweller and watchmaker, Betts of Ipswich. The Betts brothers were probably at the helm when this particular watch was sold.
