Early 19th Century English Teak Military Campaign Chest

Description

A rare, small sized 19th Century English, solid teak military campaign chest with four drawers, having a moulded reeded top. The chest was made in two halves for easy transportation, which have brass side carrying handles. The drawers have original locks and flush fitting, recessed brass handles. Standing on a plinth with shaped bracket feet.

Campaign chests were the travel items of British military officers who bought and commissioned them for their campaigns abroad. Any furniture specifically made to break down or fold for ease of travel can be described as campaign furniture. It was designed to be packed up and carried on the march and most commonly associated with British military officers.

A lovely and characterful piece with nice colour.
