Antique silver Longines pocket watch retailed by J W Benson, and chain.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, Longines calibre 18.6N, which is working nicely. The movement carries the serial number 2,525.292 which dates it back to 1911. The movement is signed with the details of the original retailer, ‘J W Benson, 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill, London, by Warrant to HM The Late Queen Victoria’.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has some gentle unevenness.

The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is hallmarked for London (import mark), 1910, with a sponsor’s mark for Alfred Baume, Baume & Co were the sole importers of Longines watches to the UK and the Commonwealth. There is also a mark for J W Benson. The case is in good condition, just a little unevenness to the case back.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The dial is in lovely condition and has its original pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a single silver chain, unhallmarked but tested as being silver. The chain weighs 36g.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.
