(Reserved Jb) Longines Weems Canadian Transatlantic Air Service Issued Pilots Watch Circa 1942

1920 - 1940
Description

(Reserved JB)For sale, a once in a lifetime chance to own this very rare Canadian Government Transatlantic Air Service issued Longines Weems, circa 1942. This is the small version Weems that shows remarkably very little wear. It is fitted with its original Canadian military issued designed dial and handset and is completely original, the dial just showing some slight radium burning from the hands not being moved for some time. Fitted with a Bonklip strap.

Longines Weems CGTAS Canadian Government Transatlantic Air Service watch circa 1942/3.

The Longines archives confirm that this watch was supplied to the Longines Wittnauer Company America in 1942. It left the factory fitted with RCAF design dial which looks to be in original and unrestored condition as does its deep blue infilled handset. The case shows only slight wear, the case back is inscribed C.G.T.A.S. 12530:

The CGTAS was initially equipped with 6 modified Lancaster bombers in 1943. Pilots would have to fly from Montreal to Prestwick, Scotland, a 12 to 13-hour journey, almost all-over open sea. The modified Lancaster’s had a maximum payload of 26,000 pound and could carry 3 passengers. Approx. 500 missions had been flown by 1945 and this formed the basis the civil aviation transatlantic trips. Price £3450.00

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
