Longines Weems CGTAS Canadian Government Transatlantic Air Service watch circa 1942/3.
It left the factory fitted with RCAF design dial which looks to be in original and unrestored condition as does its deep blue infilled handset. The case shows only slight wear, the case back is inscribed C.G.T.A.S. 12530:

The CGTAS was initially equipped with 6 modified Lancaster bombers in 1943. Pilots would have to fly from Montreal to Prestwick, Scotland, a 12 to 13-hour journey, almost all-over open sea. The modified Lancaster’s had a maximum payload of 26,000 pound and could carry 3 passengers. Approx. 500 missions had been flown by 1945 and this formed the basis the civil aviation transatlantic trips. Price £3450.00
