Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eighteenth-century English Country oak dresser displays a dark brown timber finish with visible grain and a polished surface. The substantial piece combines a multi-tiered open plate rack top with arched side galleries and small drawers, positioned above a wide base fitted with swan-neck brass handles, brass backplates, fielded panel doors, and a central panelled cupboard door. Standing at 192 cm high, 267 cm wide, and 58 cm deep with an 80 cm serving area height, the configuration provides extensive display and storage capacity. In a contemporary home, this large furniture item suits a spacious kitchen, country house dining room, or entrance hall for storing and displaying tableware, serving platters, and decorative ceramics. The traditional combination of open shelving and enclosed lower cupboards offers practical organisation while maintaining a classic rural aesthetic suitable for both traditional and rustic interior settings.

FAQs

A Welsh dresser, or kitchen dresser, is a traditional piece of storage furniture featuring a wide lower cabinet or chest of drawers topped with open shelves designed to display crockery and plates.

Traditional dressers were predominantly constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak, elm, or pine, using hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joinery, and fitted with brass or iron hardware.

Authentic antique dressers feature hand-sawn timber marks on backboards, hand-cut joinery, slight irregularities in symmetry, authentic brass patination, and wear consistent with age and functional use.

In modern interiors, an oak dresser serves as a focal point by displaying contemporary ceramics, glassware, or art books on its open shelves, contrasting historical timber with clean, minimalist decor.

To preserve the finish, clean the wood using a soft microfibre cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain once or twice a year, and avoid placement near direct heat sources or damp environments.
