Description

An outstandingly good quality French 19th century figured mahogany and strung inlaid marble top commode in the Restoration style, circa 1880 and in very good original condition.

Without doubt, this is the best quality commode I have ever had the pleasure of handling.

The book matched figured mahogany veneers to the front running from the base through each drawer and drawer frame are stunning, and with the very fine string inlay complimenting so well.

The commode has five drawers, all of which are cedar lined and run beautifully, also have all of their original locks too...the bottom plinth drawer is locked with the lock from the drawer above which is a nice touch.

The marble top is a most unusual cut and is beautifully grained, the grey and charcoal contrasting well with the rich mahogany tone.

This really is an exceptional French commode and has been looked after and cared for very well indeed. I would love to know where this piece was commissioned for originally...any queries, don't hesitate to get in touch.
