Very unusual French mid 19th century mahogany and marble top commode chest of drawers, but this one does also have a slide out writing surface or brushing slide with a leather inset. Circa 1850 and in lovely condition.
Wonderful figured or flamed mahogany running up the front of the drawers and it''s cleaned and polished to give a fabulous colour tone which works very well with the original charcoal and white grain marble top.
This French commode could work well as a dressing chest but also the height is right for using as an occasional desk if this was to be used in a living room for example. Not forgetting the four full width drawers offering lots of storage space and all with a lock and key.
The drawers are opened by using the keys as drawer pulls. If you would rather have a set of handles fitted, please do let me know and I can discuss options with you.
