Some minimal wear to this huge antique decorative Ushak, which is around 140 years old.

Ushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in western Anatolia, Turkey, which has been a major centre of textile production since the Ottoman Empire. Renowned since the fifteenth century, these weaving traditions produced large-scale floor coverings favoured in European royal courts and stately estates.

Traditional Ushak carpets are hand-knotted using high-grade, lustrous wool on a wool or cotton warp and weft foundation. Woven using the Ghiordes or Turkish double knot, they typically exhibit a slightly looser knot density that contributes to their soft pile and supple texture.

Authentic Ushak carpets are identifiable by their characteristic design language, featuring large-scale central medallions, angular palmettes, and open fields. They feature natural vegetable dyes resulting in soft terracotta, ivory, and soft blue hues, alongside a distinctive coarse weaving structure visible on the underside.
