Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ushak (or Oushak) carpets originate from the town of Usak in West-Central Anatolia, Turkey, which has been a major centre for carpet weaving since the 15th century. These carpets are recognised for their soft pastel colour palettes, silky wool texture, and large-scale geometric or medallion motifs.

Traditional Ushak carpets are hand-knotted using spun wool on a wool or cotton warp and weft foundation. They employ the symmetrical Turkish (Ghiordes) knot, which provides structural integrity and creates the characteristic soft pile.

Authentic antique Ushak carpets feature a muted palette derived from natural vegetable dyes, frequently including pale blues, terracottas, and creams. They are characterised by a lower knot density, large geometric medallions, and subtle colour variations known as abrash.

An Ushak rug serves as a foundational element in a room, pairing effectively with both contemporary neutral upholstery and dark timber furniture. Its soft, muted tones complement clean lines and understated interior schemes without visual conflict.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush to prevent fibre distortion. Spills should be blotted immediately with an absorbent cloth, and professional cleaning by a specialist textile conservator is recommended periodically.
