Antique Angora Ushak Carpet

19th century
Description

A remarkable pale and gorgeous late 19th century antique Angora carpet, woven in a small town in Western Anatolia, Ushak, this type of Turkish carpet are known as Angora carpets. The late 19th century weavers came from villages outside of Ushak and employed tribal techniques. Paramount to these techniques was the use of larger knots on these carpets (sometimes less than 30 knots per square inch) and an all-wool foundation.  This is why Ushaks have a soft loose feel and their designs are more often very open.

Woven with exquisite faded pinks, peach tones, golden yellows and rare green dyes, it is perfect for a bedroom, study or drawing room looking for a subtle calm look.  In wonderful original condition, with only small areas of wear.  The majority of the carpet has a soft pile showing all over, please view all the additional images to see this rare carpets condition up close.  A highly decorative antique carpet ready to be viewed at home or in our showroom.

Request a home visit to see this beautiful pale Angora Ushak carpet at home.  We travel nationwide, offering our professional, free, no obligation service for over 30 years.  Or please do book in a showroom visit, we are open Monday to Saturday by appointment.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Angora Ushak carpet is a traditional hand-knotted textile woven in the Usak region of Western Anatolia, distinguished by its use of silky Angora goat wool, large-scale central medallion motifs, and soft palette hues.

These carpets are constructed using hand-tied Ghiordes or symmetrical knots on a foundation of natural wool or cotton, utilizing dyed Angora fleece to achieve a lustrous pile.

Authentic pieces display characteristic relaxed knotting densities, stepped central medallions, angular spandrels, and natural vegetable dyes that soften evenly over time.

Position the carpet as a foundational floor covering in a living room or dining space, pairing its warm muted tones with contemporary neutral upholstery or polished dark timber furniture.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotary brush, utilize a dense underlay to prevent wear, rotate periodically to distribute traffic, and employ professional specialist cleaners for spot treatments.
