Antique Vacheron Constantin Silver Half Hunter Pocket Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

UK POSTAGE ONLY FOR THIS ITEM

Antique Vacheron Constantin silver half hunter pocket watch.

Vacheron Constantin are regarded as the world's oldest watch brand in continuous operation since its founding in 1755. The company was also the first to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts, beginning such production in 1839.

This particular watch has a 15-jewel stem-winding movement, identified as by Vacheron Constantin, which is working nicely. The movement is not signed, which is quite normal if the watch is intended as a private label piece, but it has the Vacheron Constantin serial number, 288013, which dates it back to 1905/1906. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a long but light scratch across it.

The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are Continental 935 silver hallmarks inside all three covers. The inside of the back cover also has the Vacheron Constantin Maltese cross logo. Vacheron Constantin chose this symbol for their logo because it represents the shape of the component that fixed to the barrel of its movement, which reduces the amount of wheels necessary for winding.

The case is in good condition with just a hint of unevenness in places but nothing serious at all. The front cover has a small central lens surrounded by blue enamel filled Roman numerals.

The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover, which then needs opening with your thumb. The cover opens up further than the usual 90 degrees.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The dial has been left blank so that the retailer could add their details if required. Pin-set blued steel hands including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed. There is a little marking to the dial, and a couple of hairline cracks radiating from the centre although they are faint. There is also a little chip to the centre of the sub seconds dial.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
