Antique Swiss Gold Filled Pocket Watch

Antique Swiss gold filled pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is stamped with the letter M. This appears to refer to the fact that the watch was originally sold in France, and it refers to the case material, ie, métal for a metal case other than gold or silver. We have also seen O for or (gold). Perhaps for import duty purposes.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has some light marking.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold filled and was made in Switzerland by the Geneva Watch Case Company. It has a couple of small “dings” to the hinged case back, and some rubbing around the edge.

The watch glass is in lovely condition.

The enamel dial has its original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. There is an arc shaped hairline over number 11 and a little discolouration around the centre.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
