Gents Longines wrist watch, 1968.

The watch has a 17-jewel hand-winding movement, calibre 285, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed with the Longines name and the serial number, 14,961,043, dates it back to 1968. This is a good quality movement with an excenter regulator (an off-centre cam that pushes the lever from side to side which gives finer resolution).

The watch measures 34mm wide excluding the winding crown and 35mm high excluding the lugs. The main body of the case is gold plated while the screw-on case back is stainless steel. There is a very small patch of wear just by the winding crown but not immediately noticeable to the naked eye. The screw-on case back is engraved, ‘BK 1969’. It also states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture. The inside of the case back is signed with the Longines name.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in good original condition with original hands, centre seconds sweep and a date display (an early form of quickset date where the hands are moved repeatedly backwards and forwards between quarter past midnight and 9.15pm until the desired date is reached.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in its Longines presentation box… the new strap is longer than the original would have been so the buckle has to be tucked underneath.
