A particularly fine quality William IVth period CHIFFONIER by Gillows of Lancaster in lovely condition.**

Of superb quality and constructed of ‘Gonzales Alvez’ timber, much favoured by Gillows, this beautiful piece features an upper shelf supported on finely turned and reeded uprights and a small intermediate shelf with concave corners also supported on smaller turned and reeded uprights. Below are two silk-lined doors, which open to reveal two adjustable shelves, making three in all. It is supported on iconic Gillows “apple” feet, and retains its original working lock and key. 42ins wide; 15.75ins deep front-to-back. circa 1830-45

** At present this retains its ‘distressed’ pleated silk panels. The full price includes replacing these in pleated silk of the buyer’s choice of colour. Due to the useful storage available in the lower cupboards, such fine quality chiffoniers have become popular as dining room sideboards, especially when space may be at a premium.
