Gents 1950s Printania Chronograph Wrist Watch

Gents 1950s Printania chronograph wrist watch.

The watch has a Swiss 17-jewel Landeron 51 hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner dust cover.

The watch measures 35mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is rose gold plated with the back being stainless steel (there is a small indentation to the case back). There is some rubbing along the angled edges but you have to look quite carefully to see it.

The back of the watch states that it is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch it should be kept away from water and moisture.

The lens is in lovely condition.

The dial is signed Printania, a name first registered by Rene Eugene Chabloz in 1946. It is in good original condition with original hands and two subsidiary dials, one for constant seconds and the other to record up to 30 minutes (including the markers at three, six and nine minutes. These were aimed at the business man who made international telephone calls which were very expensive at the time. The calls were rounded to chargeable chunks of three minutes and so watch making companies came up with this scale to help people control their talking duration).

The chronograph feature is operated by pressing the top button to start and the bottom to stop and then again to re-set.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
