Andros Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The rich deep tone of the mahogany offers further clues to the quality of the chest as indeed does the substantial weight of the piece. Beautifully patinated, wearing its history with pride, and all the better for it. The brass handles, which appear to be the originals are themselves wonderfully patinated and darkened by the years of use. They could of course be cleaned for any purchaser before delivery if desired, but it would be a shame to remove so many years of patination.
Of a simple but interesting design, this piece would work well in many decors, suitably harmonizing into a Country House environment or indeed making a statement in a modern environment.
