Mysterious Surrealist Mid Century Oil on Canvas: Hidden Figures, Odalisque

1940 - 1960
Description

A stunning, mysterious surrealist painting, depicting two figures - hidden behind a curtain bar their bare feet - and an image of woman in the position reminiscent of Ingre's Odalisque.

Exquisitely painted in an almost hyperrealist manner, the oil on canvas is simply signed "Ursula", and I have not been able to identify the artist based on this first name alone. An inscription to the verso has been erased. Dating from the 1950s or 60s, there is light craquelure and light markings commensurate with age. I believe the painting likely to have been painting in France by a foreign - possibly Latin American?- artist.

Measuring 65 x 54 cm, the overall framed size in a simple silver frame is 69 x 58 cm.
