Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, traditional woodcarvers across South and East Asia produced devotional statues for local shrines as well as export pieces for European collectors. These sculptures often represented spiritual deities or figures, reflecting regional artistic traditions and native timber craft.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense native hardwoods such as teak, mahogany, or ebony. The figures were hand-carved using traditional gouges and chisels, then finished with natural oils, waxes, or stains to highlight the grain of the wood.

Authentic period carvings display irregular hand-tool marks, natural timber shrinkage cracks along the grain, and deep patination in recessed areas. Genuine age manifests as uneven wear on exposed surfaces and natural darkening of the wood finish over time.

Place the sculpture as a focal point on a sleek sideboard, entryway console, or open shelving unit. Combining warm wooden tones against neutral walls creates a tactile contrast, allowing the sculptural silhouette to anchor a contemporary space.

Keep carved wooden items away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp environments to prevent splitting. Clean gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth, and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax annually to maintain the timber patination.
