Tom Scott Antiques has dated this piece to the 1850s.
So it suggests it has been used more decoratively. Although with the three full width drawers and the fourth drawer being above in the frieze, this will give you great storage space if you were looking for a bedroom chest of drawers.

The brass handles, mounts and escutcheons are all of a fabulous quality and I do have the original key too.
The simple clean grain of the mahogany and tone give this commode real style and elegance for such a substantial piece. Standing on its original block feet with mouldings.

All four drawers run well and are stable.
Great piece of French Empire furniture in super condition and beautifully made.
