Two framed sets of 4 late C19th Chinese Qing Dynasty watercolour studies of musicians and court figures on ‘pithe’ paper in ebonised frames .

Decorative pair of ebonised and divided frames each mounted with 4 brightly painted watercolours or gouaches of Chinese figures in varied poses .

Beautifully executed on ‘pithe’ or rice paper , having retained the original vivid colours. Often produced in albums to depict Chinese life , this type of watercolour studies were exported for Western consumption to supply the fashionable demand for Chinese objects and culture.

The reverse each with an American picture-framers trade label from Hartford, Connecticut.

Minor ripples to the paper of some , but no rips or deterioration. Excellent bright colouration to all .
