Engravings (3) from the 'Gentleman's Recreation' (1686) After Richard Blome

17th century
Sold by Culvertons
Description

These three early hand-coloured engravings titled 'Stalking', 'Shooting Flying', and Stag Takeing Soyle' are housed in 19th Century rosewood frames (Circa 1840) with gilt slips. The contrast between the rich rosewood, gold leaf and the ivory tones of the laid paper really do enhance these period prints. Richard Blome, a Late 17th Century engraver and cartographer published three volumes intended for the edification and education of the country gentleman at the dawn of the age of enlightenment, and these three are from the 'Sporting' volume'.

The armorial crest and copperplate printed underneath the main image indicates which member of the aristocracy gave financial support to the production of these volumes.

They have just come into stock from a private source and as such need minimal polishing to the frames and their paper backing re-placing. However, this will be done before they are dispatched.

The measurement of each frame is slightly different --

32 cm (width) x 45 cm (height)

33 cm x 48 cm

35 cm x 49 cm

An attractive group that really evoke the period they were printed in.

Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
