Gents 1950s Ogival Wrist Watch

Gents 1950s Ogival wrist watch.

The watch has a good quality 17-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed with the Ogival Watch SA name. Ogival was a brand name registered by René Brandt of Fabrique d'Horlogerie Ogival SA in 1933.

You may notice the empty holes in the movement, these are for retaining screws. However, they are not required in this case as there is a retaining ring which holds everything in place.

The watch measures 32mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is chrome plated, there is the odd small mark and a little wear but overall very acceptable for a 1950s piece. The winding crown is the original signed crown.

The case back is stainless steel, it is signed Ogival and also Fisk, which translates as fish and there is an image to tie this up. The fish image was first seen on Ogival watches in the 1940s. The case back also states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed textured dial is in its original finish, including the fish image, and it is in beautiful condition. Original hands and centre seconds sweep.

A later leather strap has been fitted and it sets the watch off handsomely.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
