Antique silver fusee pocket watch by Burdess of Coventry.

The watch has a fusee (chain driven) movement which is working nicely. This is a good quality Coventry movement with diamond endstone and Bosley regulator. The movement is signed Adam Burdess, Coventry and it is all protected by an inner fitted cover.

Burdess was born in 1823, and he worked in Coventry, England from about 1868 until 1905

The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the back covers for London 1871 with a case maker's mark for the Coventry watch case maker Joseph Sharpe. The case is in good condition for such an early piece, there is a half centrimetre line indentation to the back. The name J Gilder is engraved in small lettering to the case back.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The dial is in lovely condition too and it has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. The minute hand is slightly out of shape.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
