Mid C18th Early George III Chippendale Period Mahogany Chest of Drawers.

18th century
Description

Mid C18th early George III Chippendale period mahogany chest of drawers.

Two short and three long graduated drawers with oak linings and ‘cock-beaded’ edges , all fitted with original pierced brass back-plate handles and escutcheons of Chippendale design . The brass-ware remaining unpolished and retaining traces of it’s original gilt lacquer finish . The drawers also retaining original locks , though key is lacking .

The canted cut-corner rectangular top with cleated edges of broad-banded form . The corresponding canted corners of the chest with reeded detail architectural uprights above a base moulding , the whole raised on shaped scrolling ogee-section bracket type feet.

A superb quality mid-Georgian period mahogany chest of drawers in excellent untouched original condition. The well chosen high-quality tightly-grained Cuban mahogany with a rich colour , glowing patina and original surface .

This mahogany chest bears all the design features and qualities associated with production in the Northern counties of England , and indeed also bears an historic paper label stating it was bought in 1939 from a house in Kendal , Cumbria, where it had resided for 100 years .

A fine Georgian chest-of-drawers of practical and desirable compact proportions in connoisseur’s condition.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
