Rare Dent of London Silver Pocket Watch No 6818, Circa 1842

Description

For sale is this exceptionally fine a now quite rare Silver pocket watch by Dent of London no 6818, circa 1842. The dial is numbered to the movement and the dial is without any damage or hairlines. The gilt movement is set with a diamond end stone and is in full working order and keeping time, having just been regulated and oiled. The silver case shows hardly any wear to the original engine turn design finish and has excellent hinges and tight-fitting front bezel and case back and retains a scratch mark to the inner case back being either 1847 or 1861. The case is hall marked with date letter to 1842. Dent is one of the best English makers of the 19th century and made the navigation chronometer for HMS Beagle, Dent also maintain Big Ben in London. There is a great deal of information on the internet about Dent watches and clocks including watch and clock numbers. Case size approx. 46mm excluding crown and loop. Sold with key.
