William And Mary Marquetry Chest Of Drawers

A rare William and Mary period late 17th century five drawer marquetry chest. Each drawer with intricate inset panels depicting pairs of lyre birds. The top surface having a central quartered oval panel of floral design flanked by further design panels in each corner. Unusually for this period the carcass and veneered front is mahogany, a wood rarely used at the time by English cabinet makers. The chest breaks at the waist for ease of transport and has wrought iron carrying handles sympathetically replaced feet and handles circa 1700
