Stunning and rare 18th Century French mahogany commode in the Russian style. In excellent condition and of substantial weight with marble top, brass gallery and secret drawers to the side. The secret compartments are opened by a button hidden in the top drawer.
High society Russians in the 18th and 19th Century expressed the idea that French was a universal language and French furniture was a great source of inspiration at this time. The furniture was made for the new palaces built in the second half of the 18th Century. This piece is an excellent example of this period being linked closely to Russian nobility.
