A stunning early 18th century walnut chest on stand. The stand and handles have been replaced. Reputed to be the property of Theodore Jacobson architect as it is inscibed on the back panel Theo Jacobson - London. We have reason to believe that it was once the property of the Architect Theodore Jacobson a wealthy merchant who was later , in his retirement comissioned to design the foundling hospital in Holborn 1742. Jacobson was a governor at the hospital along with Hogarth and Handel who was also a patron and Handel donated the royalties of his ''Messiah'' to the hospital in the perpetuity. Jacobson was also responsible for the designing of Trinity College Dublin and the Royal Hospital Haslar along with the East India House in London. He died in 1722. The provenance of the chest is of Moigne Combe near Dorchester, home to the Bond family. There have been Bonds in Dorset since 1472.
