Description

This is an absolutely delightful early 19th century Italian gilded gesso commode chest with an outstanding deep rich coral ground. The hand gilding to the chest is truly remarkable with a good deep relief that gives the impression of the chest being wrapped in embossed hand tooled leather. The chest has a bombe shape to the front beneath the two top drawers with a shaped frieze to the base. The gilding to the drawers fronts is absolutely beautiful with grand acanthus scrolls and flower and leaf designs with central gilded cartouche around the large keyholes. The chest is in remarkably good original condition and is raised on its four original gilt ball and claw feet.

A real gem. Circa 1830

The chest measures 79 cms wide 45 cms deep and 78 cms high.
