Description:
The chest boasts a two-plank primitive moulded top, above three drawers. The drawer fronts are decorated with mitred geometric moulded panels, flanked by a simple frame; all of which is typical of this period. Each drawer features a different design. The drawers incorporate old replacement brass drop ring handles, circular brass back plates and oval key escutcheons. The drawers feature working locks and there is a working key. The drawers are oak lined and are constructed with primitive hand dovetail joints. The chest features solid inset panel sides, along with the original backboards. The chest terminates on an elegant moulded frieze and is raised on the original bracket feet. The frame of the chest has been built using the traditional peg construction method.

Condition Report:
This chest is in good condition considering the age of the item. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The brass pear-drop handles, circular backplates and oval key escutcheons are old replacements. The drawers retain the original oak drawer linings. There are working locks to all three drawers (with a key). The chest stands on the original bracket feet. Chests of drawers of this age usually have replacement feet due to the period of time they have stood on damp floors. The sides and backboards on the chest are also original. Overall, this item is solid in joint (not loose or wobbly) and is ready to use.
