A 1920s J W Benson pocket watch.

J W Benson Ltd was the official watchmaker to the Admiralty and the War Department and also held a number of royal warrants, being watchmakers to Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, the Tsar of Russia and several other royal families.

They were probably London’s most important watch makers and watch retailers of the second half of the 19th and the first half of 20th centuries selling English and Swiss made watches.

This particular watch has a Cyma stem-winding movement which is working well. The movement is signed J W Benson, 15 jewels adjusted, Swiss made and the Cyma calibre number 939a and it is protected by an inner hinged dust cover.

The watch measures 50.3 mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 10ct gold filled is the Moon model made by the Dennison Watch Case Company. The case has light surface marking from use and a few small "dings" to the back but overall it is in nice condition for a 1920s piece

The glass lens has the odd minor nibble to the outer edge although hardly noticeable but overall it is in nice condition.

The white enamel dial is signed J.W.Benson, London. The dial is in nice condition.

The watch has its original blued steel hands.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
