Gillows of Lancaster Wellington Chest

Description

Gillows of Lancaster: a fine quality mid-19th century rosewood WELLINGTON CHEST in very good original condition. Below the well-figured top are twin stiles one of which is hinged and locks to keep six graduated drawers in place. All the drawers have mahogany linings and retain their original turned solid rosewood handles. 49 inches high 24 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

***Although not stamped, there are a number of features with this fine chest that point to Gillows. These include: fine quality timber and construction throughout; threaded wooden handles and in particular the drawer construction with screwed fixings that allow the base to move freely thus avoiding splits.
