Antique silver pocket watch retailed by J W Benson.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case backs. The date letter is quite rubbed but appears to be the mark for 1909. The assay office mark is for London (import mark), and the importer was George Stockwell.

From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

The back of the case has been engraved with ornate initials. There is some unevenness to the hinged case back.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The dial is in good condition. It is signed with the J W Benson albeit rather faintly. Pin-set hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a silver chain hallmarked for 1912. The chain measures 30cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. Also included is a 1923 silver fob. The chain and fob weigh 37.5g.

The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
