1918 Silver James Wadsworth Pocket Watch & Chain

Antique 1918 silver James Wadsworth pocket watch and albert.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London (import mark) 1918 with an importer's mark for George Stockwell.

From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

The case has a pin-prick size “ding” to the side, and some unevenness to the hinged case back. The back of the watch has the initials GS.

The inside of the case back has a 1919 calendar from the Walsall jewellers Sheppard Brothers.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed James Wadsworth, Manchester, the original retailer of the watch. The dial is in lovely condition with original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a silver single chain, 30cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. Also included is a 1939 medal fob from the Trinity School of Music, London.

The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
