Small Regency Gillows Mahogany Chest

Description

Top quality small 3 foot wide mahogany chest of drawers very much in the manner and style of Gillows of Lancaster. I have in fact had that exact turned foot on a Gillows stamped wardrobe in the past. The chest is a great size with two over two drawer configuration. The drawers are all oak lined and most unusually are cock beaded in rosewood. The top 4 brass knobs are original, the bottom two are very close contempory replacemnets. The top of the chest is a lovely piece of mahogany with rounded corners at the front with a triple reeded mould all round. There is a matching triple reed mould to the base with the lovely original turned feet with ebonised decoration.

There is an overhang to the top at the back to compnesate for any skirting board with a moulded piece to the sides where it hangs over. This is a feature detail often seen on Gillows pieces of carcass furniture.

The chest is basically in very good condition and is a lovely colour with original patination. There are a couple of minor chips to the bottom reed moulding on the sides but you can't see them.
