The style of dresser originates from the counties of both Shropshire and Staffordshire but this style is also commonly found within the North West / West Midland region. The dresser measures 6ft 1¾” wide and boasts its original rich oxblood colour and patination. It is of a quality craftsmanship; it comprises a two plank oak top decorated with mahogany cross banding. The top features an elegant reverse cavetto moulding to the underside and an ovolo moulding to the two-plank top. Lovely oak medullary rays are prominent in the oak on the front of the dresser. The dresser houses three large moulded drawers, also decorated with mahogany cross banding; brass key escutcheons, brass swan neck handles and brass back plates. The brass handles are old Victorian replacements. All three drawers retain their original steel locks, which are in working condition. There is also a working key. The drawer linings and bottoms are oak lined and constructed with primitive butt joints. The dresser is raised on simple square section cabriole legs to the front and rear, terminating on squared pad feet, with a simple apron fretwork below and also to the sides of the dresser. It features the original single plank backboard to the rear and the frame has been constructed in the traditional peg and joined construction method.

Dimensions:

Height = 92.5cm or 36½” or 3ft 0½”

Width = 187.4cm or 73¾” or 6ft 1¾”

Depth (including handles) = 53cm or 20?” or 1ft 8?”

Condition Report:

This dresser is in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the top and leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. All three drawers retain their original steel working locks and there is also a working key. The drawers retain their original oak drawer linings. The brass swan neck handles are old Victorian replacements. There is no missing cross banding on the top or sides of the dresser. The dresser is raised on its original legs and retains its original backboards. The dresser has been cleaned and wax polished in our workshops. As the dresser boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic rich oxblood oak colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The dresser is well constructed, solid in joint with no loose movements and is ready to be used.
