Here is a stunning quality antique George II oak farmhouse joined enclosed low dresser base sideboard, circa 1740, originating from the town of Machynlleth in the county of Powys, Mid Wales, boasting a stunning colour with fine inlay, in good condition.

The dresser is of a primitive design and is noticeably deep, making it a practical piece of furniture for storage. Comprising of a three-plank top, below a bank of six narrow oak lined spice drawers, which incorporate the original brass knobs, on a scalloped pad; the top is finished with a simple moulded edge. The base incorporates a narrow central deep drawer, flanked by two wide deep drawers, all decorated with sycamore banding. The drawers are oak lined and constructed with primitive dovetail joints and feature later brass swan neck handles and brass back plates, which are all of top quality. Below, there are three prominent fielded Arcadian panels with decorated shaped tops, with the central panel being a hinged door. The panels have been constructed in the traditional peg method and boast the most wonderful painted inlay starbursts, with alternating dark and light shades, all of which is original. The central door incorporates the original butt hinge, working lock and brass knob, and opens to reveal a shaped central shelf, flanked by shelves, which are the depth of the whole interior. The sides of the dresser feature solid oak fielded panels, raised on the original block stile feet. The dresser retains its original oak vertical backboards.

Condition Report:

This dresser is in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the top and leading edges, including drawer fronts and cupboard doors, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers and cupboard door are in good working order and close flush to the frame. The drawers boast the original oak linings. The three larger drawers incorporate later brassware; however the brassware is of top quality. The brass doorknob and lock is original (with working key). The oak sides, top, oak backboards, feet and drawer linings are all original. There has been restoration to the backboards on the spice drawers. The dresser boasts its original polish and patination generating a stunning deep rich oxblood oak colour. This item is solid in joint and ready to be used.
